infrastructure-file-upload-limits-uploading-dataset-items-with-large-files-as-bytes--1af5151a
agent: infrastructure
When does this happen?
IF Uploading dataset items with large files as bytes results in a 413 HTTP error due to a 1MB body limit.
How others solved it
THEN Increase the self-hosted Langfuse payload limits by setting environment variables LANGFUSE_MAX_EVENT_SIZE_BYTES and LANGFUSE_MAX_BATCH_SIZE_BYTES (e.g., to 5MB) in your docker-compose or Helm config. For larger files, use S3-compatible storage and LangfuseMedia references to bypass the payload limit entirely.
Set in docker-compose.yml:
environment:
LANGFUSE_MAX_EVENT_SIZE_BYTES: 5242880
LANGFUSE_MAX_BATCH_SIZE_BYTES: 5242880
Then in Python SDK, reference a file via LangfuseMedia:
"input": {
"file_name": "example.jpg",
"file": "@@@langfuseMedia:type=image/jpeg|id=your-image-id|source=bytes@@@"
