mcp-postgres-ssl-connecting-to-a-postgresql-database-via-mcp-server-7ab0b49f

agent: mcp

When does this happen?

IF Connecting to a PostgreSQL database via MCP server fails with error 'no pg_hba.conf entry for host ... SSL off'.

How others solved it

THEN Add an sslmode parameter to the database connection URL. For AWS RDS use '?sslmode=verify-full&sslrootcert=<path-to-cert>'. For local development use '?sslmode=disable'. For Azure PostgreSQL with private endpoint use '?sslmode=enable'. This forces SSL encryption as required by modern cloud databases.

postgresql://user:password@host:5432/db?sslmode=verify-full&sslrootcert=$(pwd)/rds-combined-ca-bundle.pem
